Learninglabs Understandingself Part2

Who Does God Say I Am?

C. S. Lewis wrote that how God thinks of us matters more than how we think of God. We all carry a view of God shaped by many voices over the years. The New Testament writers, close to Jesus on earth, tell us how God views us. Paul's letter to the Romans reminds readers who they are and how God sees them.

Read Romans 8:14–16:

God sees you as his child and wants you to see yourself under his care. That view can change how you approach God. Ask yourself which traits of your earthly father you need to separate from your view of your heavenly Father. What were you taught growing up about how God sees you, and what needs to change or stay?

Digging Deeper

For additional understanding of who God says you are, take the three-week Foundations module entitled “Understanding Our New Identity.” Visit our Foundations page to see what module is currently being offered.

What this looks like in practice

A session like this usually runs in a small group with a leader and a discussion guide. Parents can expect a set start and end time, a room with tables or chairs, and conversation rather than a lecture. Ask the director how the group is paced and whether childcare is available while you meet.

What children carry home from this is quieter than a lesson. A parent who feels steadier in how God sees them tends to speak more gently, correct without shaming, and hold a routine without dread. Children notice that calm long before they can name it.

Two girls wearing green headbands and dark shirts stand outdoors and reach toward a woman holding a large green gift bag across a white table with boxed food items.
Three women walk toward the camera on a paved path lined with grass and trees, with other people and parked cars visible in the background.
